Prepare Yourself for Fishing

It has happened to all of us at some time or other when we haven't been able to hook a single fish and we got after hours of wetting the line in the water is a sun burnt face and a grumpy mood. We wonder what we did wrong; we had the best baits, best fishing gears, was there at the right place and at the right time! Actually there are certain things if you have make sure you are doing right to ensure that you can increase your chances of catching more fish.

Remember how you teacher use to assign loads of homework in school and also said it is important to do them? It still holds true to fishing. Doing a little homework before you venture out on a fishing trip is going to be of great help. Find out all that you can about the fish you are willing to catch- where you will find them. What to they eat, and how do they find it on a hook etc. the internet has all these information and more. Chat with the guy at the other side of the counter at the local fishing store and pay attention to it. You will have to take a cue and make a note of all that he is saying.

It will also help to know about the fish you want to catch- its habitat, feeding habits, what its best preys and where it hides when a predator is nearby etc. Let us take whiting for example- bottom feeders. Mussels, pippies and bass yabbies are their common prey and they snoot up the sand in order to find their prey. So if you are fishing for whiting, you will have to make sure that your bait is sitting at the bottom. They also hide in the weed when predators are around.

It is a totally different scenario when it comes to bream- they are conservative, they will hide in fallen trees, rocky overhangs, rock walls, and thus these are the places where you would have to have to try. Young breams are more likely to jump on a feed. However the older fish rarely feed freely in the open. Ideally you should stick to one particular fishing spot for about 15 to 20 minutes before moving on. If you can get hold of a professional fishing guide – nothing like it. He will know more details like this which you will not find in the internet.

If you are looking to have a good fishing session, you must be patient. It is perhaps one of the most important of all the tips. Knowing your catch a little better, talking with the locals at the bait and tackle shop, and waiting patiently are the four pillars of successful fishing. Also remember to practice catch and release. It is a way to make sure that you have more to fish when you go back the next time with your kids. Happy fishing and Tight Lines!
