Aiden Cota, 16, of Lutsen holds the lake trout he caught June 1 at the mouth of the Temperance River at Lake Superior. Here’s the story behind it, as told by Todd Cota, his father: “There were five family members fishing along the shore near the mouth of the Temperance River…. Aidan decided to cast a Rapala into the current from the river and let his lure be carried out about 200 feet, from which he would slowly reel it in. We all told him that it would not work and he would probably snag a log… he snagged something big, his line bent and he kept telling us for the 20 minutes it took him to reel it in, that it was a big fish, and we all laughed. When he brought it close to the shoreline, we almost fell over… but I quickly jumped in the water and grabbed it for him. The look on his face was of pure joy, with a bit of “See, I told you so!” We took it back to our cabin in Lutsen and grilled it up.”
